- Assessment: Reflective accounts + workplace supervisor input
Waiver for Students with Certified Occupational Competence
- Within these qualifications, the age requirements for work placement are waived for students who provide certified evidence of recognised occupational competence, such as holding Early Years Educator status.
- Students with certified evidence of occupational competence will still need to undertake a period of observation or work shadowing of a practitioner working with an age group different to the student's area of practice during their study.
What is Observation or Work Shadowing?
- Students will watch how another early years professional practices. This will include their interaction and communication with children. It could include their interaction and communication with other colleagues, peers and other professionals, parents and care givers.
Hours Required & Evidence
- 25 hours are required. This is equivalent to 5 × 5-hour days.
- Students should write a reflection of their experience. The reflection should be professional in nature and of a standard expected of a Level 4 or Level 5 student. It should be included within their practice portfolio.
Assessment Method
- Practical Reflective Evidence Portfolio (PREP) including reflective accounts, workplace supervisor evaluations, and tutor/assessor observations. Competence demonstrated across all placement settings.
